Learn to Play

overview

Our Learn to Play program is our entry-level program for aspiring hockey players. Players should have successfully completed several learn-to-skate sessions and be ready for the next step in their development before entering learn-to-play, as skating is the most important aspect of the game.
This program will focus on improving all aspects of skating as well as introducing players to basic hockey skills.

**We reserve the right to move a skater back to Learn to Skate if we feel that would be a better fit based upon the ability levels involved.

The Details

  • Full hockey equipment and sticks are required
  • Neck guards are recommended
  • Pucks will be used during these sessions
  • Small games will also be played during these sessions
  • Program jersey provided to all new skaters

Sessions

Our 2024-2025 Learn to Play program is offered in 6 week increments in 6 separate sessions in Canton and 4 separate sessions in Bavis over the course of the season, beginning after Labor Day and continuing until Memorial Day.

CANTON: Each skate is on Saturday and runs for 50 minutes, from 9:00am-9:50am at the Canton Sportsplex.

BAVIS: Each skate is on Saturday and runs for 50 minutes, from 8:40am-9:30am at the Mark Bavis Arena in Rockland.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer make-up dates for missed classes. However, if we need to cancel a skate due to weather or rink scheduling conflicts that may arise, Sundays will be used to make up those classes as needed.
